    ads

There was an ad for English lessons.

Does this mean that a teacher had advertised for his lessons or that a student wanted lessons?

It's not possible to tell from the example sentence. More information is required.

It was somebody claiming to be a teacher. There were eight ads, which is at least seven too many.

(I deleted one of them myself.)
