    Default our brain/our brains

    1) Our brain requires deep sleep to restore it.
    2) Our brains require deep sleep to restore them.

Which sentence is correct or more natural? I find the 2) very strange, because my mother tongue uses only the 1) variant. Thanks a lot.

The second sentence is more correct. "Our brain" implies a single brain, shared by many.

Why use the possessive pronoun at all? In instances where something sounds odd or awkward, you can always restructure the sentence completely, such as, "The human brain requires deep sleep to restore it."

I agree, but the 2nd sentence is in my textbook. I am glad a native shares my opinion.
