Thumbs down teaching stuff vs students in college administration

It is a common practice in most Chinese colleges for students to mark their teachers' performance at the end of a semester. It's usually done online, for example, give 1-100 marks to each teacher according to his or her dressing in class, teaching effects (whether the students felt involved in class, or have got a feeling of fullfillment or progress in study, etc.) Some colleges have no criteria for students to follow and some students just give marks randomly according to their general impression. Teachers who get the least marks will expect a hard talk from the directors for the first time. If they stay at the end of the list of marking the next semester, they might be asked to stop teaching or teach less lessons.
I don't think it's a good practice. It's not fair. It' s rediculous for students to judge their teachers by dressing or appearances. A better communication between students and teachers should be set up. Problems should be solved at once instead of being piled up to the end of a semester. I wonder wheter it is the case in other countries. And what do you think of the situation in Chinese colleges.

Our university also has the online academic evaluation system where students have to grade their lecturers for a few criteria, on a scale of 1-5. Any lecturer whose score falls below 3.0 would get a letter from the human resource and have to attend some kind of training.

It is unfair, but apparently, it's the only way (so they say) to gauge the effectiveness of a lecturer. So, to get that 3.0 or more, we try not to be angry, put on a fake smile and teach.

sounds like your evaluation system is more efficient than ours. At least, you've got some training program. yet, here, teachers with bad grade are left to think about their teaching themselves. sometimes they're just at a loss about what to do. teachers now tend to care more about students' evaluation instead of class efficiency or teaching effects.
