    Default You better or You'd better?

    Hi All,

    I always hear native speakers say "you better" when I'm watching movies / TVs....I know the correct one is "you'd better"....I am not sure whether it is my listening problem or not.....they drop the "d" sound....please advise! Thanks.

    Regards,

    William

    For people speaking carefully, the "d" is there, but it gets "swallowed" in fast speech.

    Make sure you keep it in your writing.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    You had better keep the 'd' in your writing.

    But sometimes I watch the subtitle of movies, they only show "you better....", there is no "d"....I wonder if they really don't say "d" sometimes....just interesting to know that

    They don't say d, because /db/ cluster leads to /bb/, then /b/.

    I'd been = I'been

    bad boy = baboy
    good bye = goobye

    goodgirl = googirl
