    Default Quotations

This one is taken from the link above:
    1. At the same time, he said, demand is projected to grow 50 percent over the next 25 years.

How come I don't need quotations? Or those are not his exact words? But 'said' is there?
    2. At the same time, he said, "demand is projected to grow 50 percent over the next 25 years."

    Thanks

    Are those his exact words?

Pat: I wanna go to the movies.
    Max: Me, too.
    Sam: What did Pat say?
Max: He said, he wants to go to the movies.
Max: He said, "I wanna go to the movies."

Is the comma optional? Somtimes I don't see people using it.

For this, we call it "reported speech". Comma and "that" are optional. We can say
"He said (that) he WANTED to go to the movies." or use dirrect speech: <He said (that) "I want to go to the movies.">

Agree. Exactly what I wanted to say except I didn't know it's called "reported speech", thanks.
