    Default How do you pronounce : "1904" and "varied" ?

    How do you pronounce :
    1) "1904"
    2) "varied" : the "a" in "va" like in "about" ? And the "ie" in "ried" like in "cry" ?

    There are a few ways to say 1904.

    "Nineteen hundred and four."
    "Nineteen hundred four."
    "Nineteen O four."
    "Aught four." (At the time).

    Varied has the vowel // as in hat.

    That "ried" is pronounced like 'reed', the 'ie' having a long e sound. But it is an unstressed long e.
    The 'y' in 'vary' also has an unstressed long e sound.
