    Re: Pronunciation of "Salt"

That's very odd, William. I say all the letters: Salt. Rhymes with vault, or malt.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

It may be due to /l/ vocalization. JC wells describes it as a feature of cockney accent. salt and sort are homonyms.

In south Chinese dialects, s and sh are often interchanged or irrelevant, so he probably hears Cantonese speakers saying shot; native speakers never would, though.

But I wanted to know if there are more than one pronunciation of "Salt", because I heard Jamie Oliver to say "Put some salt..."he pronounced the "salt" as "sult"....but sometimes I hear people say "salt" as "saw" with "lt" sound followed.....

    Re: Pronunciation of "Salt"

The vowel can vary from /a/ to /o/ (basically). Every one pronounces the l and the t.
