Question Proper noun - Or not?!

Is the word 'internet' a proper noun? I never know or not whether to spell it with a capital I!

It is a proper noun that demands a capital "I" because it's a place like no other and the only one - a world wide network of computers. Even a shortened version Net is given a capital N and Web a capital W.

to read more about that, have a look at:

By reading this you will find out there is a lot of controversy around that issue but the bottom line is to stick to the capitalization as long as we are viewing Internet pages on World Wide Web and not some other generic web masters.
