    Weird phrasing?

    In this sentence:

Routine doctor checkups allow diseases to be detected early.

    Or is this better:

Routine doctor checkups detect diseases early.

    Which one is grammatically correct?

    Re: Weird phrasing?

Both are grammatically correct; however, I would prefer the first one because it is used more often by Americans.

Just curious, are you an American? Or did you just randomly down your location?

Nope, I'm really just unsure of whether detection should be grammatically more direct or not.
