Default a twinkle in father technoligy's eyes

    Hello al
    How are you today?
I was reading an articles and I found difficulty understanding this sentence. Can you help me?

Ten years ago,If you missed one episode of the TV serial, that was it.hardly anyone had a video recorder and ten years ago, freeview boxes (and repeat viewing on digital channels were little more than a twinkle in father technology's eyes )

What does the sentence in parantheses mean?does it mean rare or s.th that happens a lot?

    Regards,
    Mathlde

"A twinke in father's eyes " means at a time before someone was born .
    definition from thefreedictionary:
when was a twinkle in father's eye - Idioms - by the Free Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

In this passage it means " freeview boxes and repeat viewing on digital channels" did not exist in father technology's days.

    I hope it may help.
