    who

We were talking about who we met at the party.

Can't this mean both a and b depending on the context:
    a. We know full well who we met and now we are talking about that person or those persons.
    b. We aren't really remember who we met there (it was such a long time ago or we were so drunk) and are talking to each other trying to figure out who we met. A bit like; We were wondering who we met at the party.

    Same question with:

I was thinking about when I saw him.

    a. I was thinking about that occasion and what was going on then.
    b. I am trying to figure out when it was that I saw him.

If you say "We were talking about who we met at the party", the sentence itself states exactly what it does. If you had problems remembering because you had a few too many, then you should use a word that would suggest that.
    ex.
We were trying to remember who we had met at the party.
