    Default Verbs -> Nouns

    Hello,

    here I am again. Would please correct the following exercise?

    I have to make the verbs into nouns, then use the nouns in senctences of my own.

    1.) to recommend -> recommendation
    In refer to the recommendation of my friend I have bought the learning book which is
    written by Hans G. Hoffmann.

    2.) to invite -> invitation
    I'm glad to say that I could accept your invitation.

    3.) to prepare -> preparation or preparedness?
    The preparation of the meeting is nearly accomplished.

    4.) to continue -> continuation
    The continuation follows next week.

    5.) to register -> registration
    Our registration is always up to date.

    6.) to publish -> publicity
    The publicity ot the annual report was caused with discussions.

    7.) to reject -> rejection
    The rejection of the less wage increase was caused with a nine-weeks-strike.

    8.) to compare -> compare
    The compare of prices isn't efficient if you ignore the quality.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Kind regards,
    Dany

    Since this is your assigment, I'll try to guide you without giving away the answers.

    6) and 8) need work. Try using the same rule you used for the other ones. As for 3), you'll have to make a choice.

    Good luck.

    Thank you Casiopea,

    I think I know what you mean. I try it again:

    6.) to publish -> publication
    The publication of the annual report was caused with discussions.

    8.) to compare -> comparison
    The price comparison isn't efficient if you ignore the quality.

    To number tree I would say that preparation is correct. But one book of me says, that the noun is preparedness which I have never heard befor. Are both correct?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dany

    I wouldn't use 'preparedness' there. Preparedness is being ready psychologically to me.

    Thanks for your explanation, Tdol.

    But I have still one question. Are my sentences all grammatical correct?

    Kind regards,
    Dany

    Additionally, consider the word formation processes below

    verb: prepare => noun: preparation
    participle: prepared => noun: preparedness

    The task was to change verbs, not participles, into nouns.
