Smile Half sister or adopted sister?

    Dear Teachers,

Thanks very much for your fast reply. First, I just want to say "Thanks" for those who answer my questions. Many times I would like to use the reply post to write you a thanks note but I was not able to get into that reply post system. I think maybe I need to become a member before I can do this.

Second, I would like to ask the question again about the relation between Angelina is Michelle, Alberto. I thought Angelina sould be their adopted sister because she was adopted by Sommers and Santiago. What do you think?

I quoted the original question again. Please see following.
Hollywood-Spokesperson for actor Nicole Sommers announced yesterday that Ms. Sommers is expecting a baby girl with husband Miguel Santiago in May. It is the couple's first child. Ms. Sommers has a daughter from a previous marriage, Michelle, aged 7, now living with her father, director Cameron DuBois. mr. Santiage has twin boys, Alberto and Jorge, age 10, who live with his ex-wife. The news of the new baby comes just three months after Sommers and Santiago adopted a little girl whom they've named Angelina. Ms. Sommers is currently shooting her latest film in the south of Spain, where she is staying with her in-laws. She has not announced plans to stop working at this time.
--Angelina is Michelle, Alberto, and Jorge's_____? I was told that she should be their half-sister but I did not really understand why?

    Thanks!

    Emily

I wouldn't use 'half' as no parent is shared. They could just be using it to sound nice.

Well, we do use half brother or half sister, Tdol. All the time as a matter of fact. And it is different from step sister or step brother. Say, if I share a sibling and we have the same father but different mothers (or vice versa), then he would be my half brother/sister, right? How else would you call it then?

I got the I-am-my-own-grandpa feeling reading it too.
