    troll in a forum?

Just to clear up, I'm not here trying to troll.

I saw this sentence in a forum discussion. And I don't understand what it is to "troll"? Could you define this word in this specific online-discussion context? (It means, "to put up numerous meaningless posts within a short time"?) Thanks for help.

    Re: troll in a forum?

In another forum I frequently post in, the term 'a troll' has come to mean a person that comes with remarks of a negative nature about the main forum's topic. So, for example, in a forum dedicated to a PC game, such a person expresses criticism, makes complaints or gripes that are totally unjust and only serve the purpose of spreading negative attitudes towards the game and spoil the forum's atmosphere.

Since the word 'troll' in this context has become an element of the internet forums' jargon, its meaning may vary a bit from site to site. The meaning I've just given is one that I've come across.

    Hope the above helps.

    All the best,
    TeeKay

    Re: troll in a forum?

The use I've seen is someone who just wants to start fights and arguments and generally make trouble. Trolls often posts a lot in a short time, but their aim, as I understand it, is to make trouble for fun.

Joe, your other thread about 'free people' wasn't working- there was something wrong with it, and when I tried to open it, I just got an error message. Could you repost the question? Many thanks
