    Hi, Richard
It depends on the age of your students. If are teaching very young learners e.g. children 5 -8 years old you kind of have to play with them and teach them. If you are teaching grown ups, its a lot easier.
I will try though to give you some idea. As far as grammar is concerned, you should begin with Present Simple/ Continuous, Pronouns, Prepositions of time, place and movement / Past Simple Continuous/ Future Simple/ Continuous, Present Perfect/ Continuous- and Past Perfect /Continuous. By the end of the year you should also know the use of the modals.
Now abou the topics. The time/ what do they do every day/ work, workplaces/ or school and favourite subjects/where do they live cities, countries nationalities/Holidays for example Christmas, Easter etc. and traditions/ Family, relatives/ Friends hobbies.

I hope I have given you an idea. You really need to search a good Grammar book for you - and pick from a publisher you trust, a Student's book. a workbook and a grammar book for your students. Your decision shouls be based on the age and level of your students.
    Hope I have been helpful.
