    Default comprehension

    Dear teachers,
I read in a book the following expression:

His throat tightened so that he could hardly breathe. Could you please explain what feeling it indicates? Is it because he is too sad to breathe or is it because he was happy so that he can't breathe?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

Normally, I'd say it was through fear or something negative.
