Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
The policeman cautioned the motorist about his speed.
The judge gave the defendant a caution.
I cautioned him against being late.
caution = warn
Millions of islands dot the world's oceans.
The islands are dotted all round the coast.
dot = sprinkle
To dot the i's and cross the t's.
dot = punctuate; specify; define more accurately
All about were dotted leafy trees.
Boulders dotted (about /over/) the lunar landscape.
dot = stud, strew
I had a companion close by me, dotting down my conversation.
dot down = jot down = write briefly
You have to pay on the dot.
