Hello Everyone,:)

I would like to know here if it is standard and natural to say "ask your mum downstairs for dinner"?

Regards

Yes. I might say, "Invite your mum downstairs for dinner" but "ask" is the same thing.

Wouldn't most mums be downstairs cooking the dinner anyway? ;-)
Everyone knows, mum's cooking is the best.

That concerns the culture differences, I think. Lots of adult Chinese lives with their parents, like us. And usually the parents take the oblications of taking care of the grandchildren and the home, while their sons and daughters work to support the family. Of couse, if not fully committed or tired, the sons and daughters will do the housework and it is not necessary that the family are supported by the juniors. The seniors have their own pensions and some of them do part time jobs or are employed to get extra earnings!

Thanks!:)

Some alternatives:
