    Default To sell someone

Can this mean "to end a relationship with someone"?

I came across the following line watching a TV show yesterday.

"If you can't sell him, I don't think it is over for you."

The background is that her ex-boyfriend keeps calling her and her new boyfriend wants him out of the picture.

No, that meaning doesn't make sense. You're sure it was "sell"?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Yes, pretty sure - just listened to it a couple times.

It's from NCIS season 4 episode 15, about 30 minutes in.

But since you as a native speaker can't make any sense of that, I guess that was just a slip of the tongue and he wanted to say "tell" instead of "sell".
Either nobody noticed it or they didn't want to reshoot the scene.
