When I was a kid we used to "call" to decide who would be "it." We would all get in a circle and the "caller" would touch each player's shoe in turn. My favorite was . . .

"My mother and your mother were hanging out clothes
My mother punched your mother right in the nose
What color was the blood?"

The kid who's shoe was touched would say a color (in this case, orange), and then caller would continue . .

"O-R-A-N-G-E spells orange and you are not it." That person would then go out of the circle. The caller would continue until there was only one person left, and that person would be "it."

There was, of course, the "Engine, engine number nine, going down Chicago line, if the train goes off the track, do you want your money back?" (The pointed kid would say "yes" or "no.") "Y-E-S spells yes and you are not it."

Does anyone remember any other "calls."
