Well, unlike you, a native speaker has spoken a particular language since early childhood.
This problem could be overcome only if you constantly speak with native speakers. Whenever you have free time, listen to and talk with native speakers. There's no shortcut.

apart from living in the UK for a number of years, I don't really think you can.

Unfortunately, I agree.
Native speakers acquire language, and you learn it. That's a pretty big difference.

Although you can perfect your grammar and have a large vocabulary, there will always be some things that won't know.

But if you put a huge effort, you can speak as you were nearly a native.

Few learners reach complete native speaker level unless they start learning very young, but that isn't a problem- you can communicate perfectly well without speaking exactly like a native speaker.
