It would help if you gave some context.

Iam in a contract with my electricity and gas supplier.

Iam on a contract with my electricity and gas supplier.
In that case we would usually use the verb "to have": "I have a contract..."

Do you have a contract?

I agree entirely as far as the example of the gas and electricity suppliers are concerned.

However, someone would be "on contract" or "on a contract" with their employer, if they're not employed casually.

You can "enter into a contract" or be "tied into a contract" too.

"I am on a contract with my employer and I'm tied into it for four years."

Sure, as you agreed with the sentence given the first example, I agree with you in your examples!

"in a contract" is often used.

I'd like to change my supplier, but I'm locked in a contract for two more years.

I would use "on a contract" in a sentence like 'I'm doing it on a contract basis.'
