"seven months less one day" - I've never heard of this expression until this afternoon, when I went to a health card office to renew my health card. If I have "two year and seven months less one day" to extend my vacation absence, how long do I have?

Let's say it's May 29th, 2010.
Generally, "a month from today" would be June 29th, 2010.

2 years and 7 months from now is 29th December, 2012.
Less one day makes it 28th December, 2012.

(I haven't heard this strange phrase before either, so maybe someone in America can confirm this.)

It is used in some legal texts where there is a time limit, and appeals, etc, or in this case must be done the day before the period expires.
less one day Go to page 2 or 3 and examples start appearing.
