    trying to learn correct english.

    I would like to know the correct way to say the following. Is it, an historical site, or is it a historical site?

    I say "a". Google doesn't seem to agree. Take your pick.

    Ann, I always say "a historical site", but not everybody would agree with me, so you might like to take a look at the following:

    They are both used. If you say 'an', then the 'h' should be silent. It's an affectation that some people think is stylish, though I must say that I am not one of them. During the recent election in the UK, I heard it about a thousand times. I would avoid the use of 'an' with an asirated 'h' because that is used by those journalists who don't know any better.
