    trying to learn correct english.

I would like to know the correct way to say the following. Is it, an historical site, or is it a historical site?

I say "a". Google doesn't seem to agree. Take your pick.

Ann, I always say "a historical site", but not everybody would agree with me, so you might like to take a look at the following:

They are both used. If you say 'an', then the 'h' should be silent. It's an affectation that some people think is stylish, though I must say that I am not one of them. During the recent election in the UK, I heard it about a thousand times. I would avoid the use of 'an' with an asirated 'h' because that is used by those journalists who don't know any better.

If you don't mind, I'd just as soon have mine with an "h" and an "a".
