    Royal Society of Arts

    Dear teachers,

    I came across the expression The Royal Society of Arts and need to translate it. I don't know how to translate it because "arts" can mean "the making, showing, or performance of painting, acting, dancing, music, etc.". It can also mean "social sciences". I failed to find it in my dictionary so I referred to my encyclopedia and found the following:

    Royal Society, The Royal Society of London for t he Advancement of Science. But I can't find "The Royal Society of Arts".

    Could you please tell me what "arts" mean here?

    Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

    * moving towards a zero waste society
    * fostering resilient communities
    * developing a capable population

    Some of our current projects include:

    * Engaging Enterprise in Water and Environmental Sanitation Development
    * The RSA WEEE Man
    * Design Directions

    Dear Mister Micawber,

    Thank you very much for your help. Why didn't it occur to me to google it?

    I came across the name in the context of criterial levels of performance of oral test of English. According to what you explained I guess it should fall to * advancing global citizenship category.

    Best wishes,

    Jiang
