    New to teaching! Help!!

I posted this in another "Ask the Teacher" thread, but I suppose it should actually go here.

I am teaching college English and it is mostly a remedial class where we are learning the parts of speech. They do not understand anything I am trying to teach them and we have only finished nouns, pronouns and verbs. HELP!!

Why don't they understand? Can they see a purpose behind it? How old are they and how are you teaching them the terms?

teaching grammar should do more than just giving information about a particular grammar item. Visit http://www.teachingstylesonline.com/...g_grammar.html and some of the other links mentioned there for teaching grammar
