Would you kindly diagram:
Tom visited me more than three weeks ago.
Thank you VERY much!
I was wondering what you thought about this analysis:
Let's diagram "weeks" as an adverbial objective. = Tom visited to an
extent of "weeks." (As our beloved Mr. House taught us in his wonderful
book). Then "three" (modified by "more than") and "ago" both modify
"weeks." Could I have that diagram?
Thank you SO much.
I'm a little rusty on "adverbial objectives". Sorry.
But Tom didn't visit an extent of weeks. He might have only visited an hour. It was weeks ago that it happened.
That's an interesting word -- ago -- isn't it? I suppose it could be replaced by "in the past". My guess at its etymology is that it come from something Anglo-Saxon like "at gone".
