    200m is common in BE.

    However, this could also mean 200 metres, so if confusion might arise when the context is not clear, write 200 million in full.

    I agree.
    On the other hand, 200m[illion] is almost always used within a context, such as $200m., or "The population has reached 200m."

    Just to add, we usually abbreviate to 'bn' for billion when you might expect 'b' for consistency with 'm'. So:

    $200 million --> $200m
    $200 billion --> $200bn
