    wet-looking/get straightened out

    Dear Teacher:

I am not quite sure about the meanings of the two bracketed phrases. Would you please do me a favor?

    1. His brown eyes were [wet-looking] and wide open with a dazed expression.

    2. Tomorrow you can start doing whatever you're going to do and working wherever you mean to work and [get straightened out].

    Thanks a lot.

I'd say that wet-looking eyes were glassy from crying or intoxication.

Get straightened out here could mean to organize your life, or stop using drugs or alcohol.

If the two sentences are from the same text, I'd guess that the drugs/alcohol explanation is probably the right one.

Eyes wet-looking? Sounds a bit strange. I would just say they were wet. ( with tears, emotions, etc)

straighten out - get your act together, tidy up your life's mess, get things right this time, etc.

The whole sentence is a bit strange to me- do eyes have a 'dazed expression'? I agree with Mykwyner about it sounding like intoxication.

Oh yes, eyes do get a dazed expression in them when you are stoned or drunk. What's strange about it, Tdol?
