Hello!

A. Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help you to stay healthy.

B. An abundance of fruits and vegetables grow in Kenya's temperate climate.

In A, fresh fruit is in the plural. So is fruits in B.
In what way does one choose which one, fruit or fruits, please?

Thanks in advance

Hello!

A. Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help you to stay healthy. - talking about fruit in general - mass noun

B. An abundance of fruits and vegetables grow in Kenya's temperate climate. - talking about kinds of fruit ('An abundance of fruits, such as mangoes and oranges') = countable noun.

In A, fresh fruit is in the plural. So is fruits in B.
In what way does one choose which one, fruit or fruits, please?

Thanks in advance

'Cheese' and 'wine' are other examples: 'I like cheese' but 'the cheeses of France.

Hello!

Thank you very much for your rely.

Am I right in assuming that in A, the ‘fresh fruit’ is generic, and in B, the ‘fruits’ is specific?

In accordance, in A, the ‘vegetables’ is generic, and in B, the ‘vegetables’ is specific?

Thanks in advance

Yes, but I don't think I would use abundance here; if you look at these searches, it looks more of a technical than a natural everyday collocation:

I think of it more in terms of quantity than variety, though others may see it differently.
