Default When to add an E at the end of a word

    Dear sir Madam,
Are there any rules to guide us when to put an E at the end of a word or not to add anything?
I would really appreciate it if you can provide me with an article or a grammar guide on this matter.

    Thank you in advance.

Default Re: When to add an E at the end of a word

Generally, any noun that ends in the letter O gets an es when it becomes a plural:

    potato --- potatoes

There is no rule in English that places an e at the end of a word that doesn't already have one.

As a rule, short words that end in e have a long vowel sound in the previous vowel.

    spit ---spite
    hat ---hate
    Tim --- time
    bit ---bite
    tun --- tune
    hop ---hope
