Question usage of the word "having"

    Hi,
I am Sanjay from Bangalore in India.

I would like to know the usage of the word having. Is the usage having restricted to eating and drinking? e.g. I am having breakfast or I am having tea. Or can we use the word having in other situations as well? Also, can this word be used to indicate ownership e.g. having a car.

More light on the same would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Sanjay

HAVE has a basic meaning-possessing, owning
However it also means eat-"having lunch", drink "having coffee" or experience "having good time"
You can't say "having a car" because when HAVE means "possession" it usually isn't found in progressive, i.e. it won't take "-ing"
    Correct me if I'm wrong-anyone.

I agree with TrustM. For ownership, we rarely use the progressive form as ownership is permanent not temporary.
