Default be the making of somebody

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

His perseverance was the making of him.

be the making of somebody = provide/ ensure the success of somebody

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V
