Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

You must have struck a bad patch. You seem to have run into the type of society woman whose whole life is wrapped up in beauty parlors and whose knowledge of world affairs is gleaned from odd scraps of other people’s conversation that she is incapable of understanding.

have struck a bad patch = be in a bad patch = be unlucky

Thanks for your efforts.

Regard,

V
