    what does oil do?

What does oil do when it's very hot and you spill some water on it? What's the verb?

Couldn't get ur question. If you mean verb in this sentence, the main verb is "do". Then there is a linking verb "is(be)".Then there is 'spill'

For us (Br Eng), that's what it does on the wall or down your front! It spits in the pan, splatters onto the wall. And the water fizzes.

Thank you all for your replies!

Am I correct then to think that it's OK to say, "the hot oil splattered into my eye" and it's incorrect to say, "the hot oil spat into my eye"?

I'd say 'spat in' - 'into' makes it sound pretty painful!
