Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
..a notice at the head of a descending flight of steps fascinatingly read, “Downstairs to the Chamber of Horrors”… He led her down the steps… Docks full of criminals of the deepest dye.
of the deepest dye = of the blackest dye; (the most despicable criminals), (the most inveterate criminals)
