Someone with a green thumb can grow plants easily. Plants flourish under the care of such a person.

(A black thumb is someone who manages to kill all their plants, despite their best efforts. )
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Green Thumb

If you have ever been involved with the cultivation or care of Tomato Plants you will get green fingers and green thumbs.

This may not be the origin of the phrase, but it should be.
