    Default Looking for a word

    Hi.
Here I have a situation like this. Say, someone is keeping a pet to keep him/her company. Can I use a word to describe the reason? Is it correct to say 'space-filling?'

    cheers

You can fill a gap in your life. I wouldn't use 'space' here.

I'd say 'filling a gap'. It doesn't sound right the other way round.

Gap-filling sounds like exercises in English tests to me.
