    off the chart...

    What does that mean "off the chart"?

    "His score was off the chart as he answered two of the most difficult questions.""

    'Off the chart' = extremely high/good/outstanding (though it could also refer to extremely low/poor too, I suppose). The image is that the statistics are not within the bounds of a chart or table of normal ranges.
