    would exceed?

    Hi

I am wondering why this person uses "would not exceed" and "would wish" in this sentence. Can one use "will exceed"

The costs of the renovation would not exceed $3,000 and and if we do, you would not wish us not to proceed with the renovation

    Re: would exceed?

If you say costs will not exceed, you are more definite about the renovation taking place- with would not exceed, nothing has been decided yet.

Both can be used here to indicate the future cost of renovation. 'Will' is generally used when you want to indicate that something is certain where as Would” is hypothetical and indicative of possibility/probability.

The person is perhaps not sure about actual cost so he has preferred to use ‘would’
