    send somebody to his account

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The duty of the soldier was plain: the man must be shot dead….sent to his account. (A. G. Bierce, “A Horseman in the Sky”)

send somebody to his account = kill somebody (an allusion to “the great account”)

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

Re: send somebody to his account

Would you tell me whether I may to accept the plausibility of the following statement?

to be called to one's account, to go to one's account ; to hand in one's accounts = to end their own lives, to die
