Dear teachers,
Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?
Nicky was not an immodest youth, but it did cross his mind that perhaps she had borrowed that thousand francs in order to scrape acquaintance with him.
cross one’s mind = pass through one's mind = pass through one's mind
scrape up acquaintance with somebody= inflict one’s company on somebody
Thank you for your efforts.
Regards,
V
