    Question "Tender" or "Bid"?

In a procurement environment what is the correct term to use "tender" or "bid". Clarification regarding usage of the two will be appreciated - thanks

They are synonymous as nouns, Abes, with 'tender' perhaps more formal-- it seems to appear more often in the newspaper advertisements than does 'bid'.
