    Default suffix

    Dear Teachers,

    Kindly tell me that how can i differentiate that, the suffix 'ate' is either the integral part of the word or a suffix attached. Kindly tell me with Examples and i also share some examples with you and Please let me correct that i am right or not.
    Activ-ate (here ate is a suffix)
    accelerate (here ate is a suffix)
    elucidate (here ate is integral part of the word)
    exaggerate (here ate is integral part or a suffix not confirmed)

    exaggerate (here ate is integral part or a suffix not confirmed)

    I'd call all these suffixes. They have a meaning "to make" (and a few other meanings:
    -ate | Define -ate at Dictionary.com

    'ate' is not a suffix in: date, mate, plate, state, interstate.
    It is a suffix in: irate (made ireful), punctate (made to a point), etc.
