    Would you please tell me if these are acceptable?

    1. Did you do the washing before you left?
    2. Did you do the washing-up before you left?
    3. Did you do the washing up before you left?

    1 & 2 are correct, though different.

    1 = clothes
    2 = plates, dishes, etc

    3 is OK and many would write it like that, but it really should have the hyphen IMO.
