Are you talking about a tomcat spraying - marking his territory with scent?

I don't mean an animal " marcando território". What I mean is someone putting fances around their land to "marcar o territorio". To show that that place is their property.

Same concept. Depending on context you may use "settler" - the good guys who moved west and settled the land or "home staeder aka squatter (neg)" - the not so popular settlers who fenced their property in the South West thus starting range wars.

If the land was previously unoccupied, we say 'stake your claim', from the settlers who started by putting stakes in the ground for their land, then did the fences.
