Default without it leading to marriage

    Hi,

What does "without it leading to marriage" mean in the following sentence? Is it a typo?

About 23% of men and women aged 25 to 34 told researchers they had previously cohabited with a partner without it leading to marriage.

    Thanks

No. It's OK. Some prescriptive grammar books insist on 'its' so the lack of S might be regarded by some as a typo.

    Thanks
It means they lived together for a while, but a marriage did not follow from it, ie. living together didn't lead to a marriage.
