    truck vs lorry

    Hi

What's the difference between a truck and a lorry? In my view lorries are much bigger.

I think, for example, Ford F 150 is a truck, but not a lorry, right?

It has been my understanding that they are the same, truck being AmE and lorry being BrE. Wait for a response from a BrE-speaker. I have no idea what a Ford F150 looks like.

    Yes, you're right. I haven't noticed that.

I just thought that "trucks" are smaller, like one of these for example:

    ford f 150 - Szukaj w Google

and lorries are bigger, like these:

    lorry - Szukaj w Google

In the UK, do you call it a "pick-up lorry"? Those are the trucks that have open backs, like the Ford F150.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

I think we tend to call it a pick-up truck or just a pick-up. This is perhaps because you had such things before we did, so we used your word.

I am also beginning to feel that truck in general is entering BrE vocabulary at the expense of lorry.

But that's just an opinion; others may disagree.

I'll go along with you there, 5jj.

    I do it myself.
