    Default please look at the mistakes

    "1)My parents have been looking for a boy for some time and 2)a few of the ones 3)they came up with I said no to immediately. When I met Hitesh I knew as little about him as the others my parents came up with. 4)You see, I expected my parents with all their experience to be able to 5)make a better choice than me."

    1) "My parents have been looking" is incorrect? "had been" OK?

    2) "a few of the ones" it bugles??

    3) Can parents come up with a boyfriend for their daughter?

    4) Do we ever say "You see" as used in the context?

    5) I've always beleived that we say "a better choice for me" not "than me"?

    I bursted into laughter when I opened the book we are supposed to learn good English from. At least according to what "some" teachers at University say.

    1) "My parents have been looking" is incorrect? "had been" OK? Yes, but "some time" is two words.

    2) "a few of the ones" it bugles?? Bugles? Better is some of them

    3) Can parents come up with a boyfriend for their daughter? Cultural question, not a grammatical one. It wouldn't have flown in my house.

    4) Do we ever say "You see" as used in the context? Yes

    5) I've always beleived that we say "a better choice for me" not "than me"? Two totally different meanings. See below.

    This dress is short, sexy, and red. That dress is is somber and longer. I need a dress to wear to a funeral. Which is the better choice for me?

    I chose a short, sexy, red dress for the funeral.
    You wore a longer, somber dress.
    You made a better choice than me. {than I did, but rarely said that way}
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    What do others think about 1) and 2)?
