    variety

hi (salamo 3alaikom) ,hope everyone is great
well my first question is about the comparative , i have read something about when the word is (CVC) like big,we need to double the last letter =bigger
so i want to ask :to what extent this rule is true , and what about words like SLIM its(ccvc) do we double the m or no
my second question is about the prular of the word (grown up) and the like
and my 3rd question is about the difference between ability and possibility , coz my sister asked me about the difference between these two terms when it comes to the function of the modal can
my last question is about the use of the modals may and can
    can you bring me food
    may you bring me food..
sorry for my long questions , and thanks alot in advance

We double the 'm', slimmer. Go here and scroll down to Final Consonant Rule 1.

    • Can you write your name?
      • meaning 1: do you have the ability
      • meaning 2: would you please
        • the meaning is usually found in the context
          • Sam hurt is his hand. Can he write his name?
          • Sam, can you write/sign your name here, please?

The second one, 'may you bring me food' sounds odd in my dialect. (It could be that I don't fully understand your question.)

Note, a lot is two words.

    Re: variety

thank you so much for answering and for correcting my mistake of (a lot)
first for the ability and possibility question , am sorry but i haven"t quite got your point. saying : can you write your name.you said there are two possibilities one of the ability and the second is more like a request so where does the "possibility " stand
and for modals ,i was just asking about the use of both
i meant when do we use may and when it is more apporpriate to use can
    thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
